UNICEF helps

The lieutenant gave the kids to the UNICEF
. Ishmael was really mad because he had not been parted from his gun since he was recruited. He had a fight with other band that a grenade stopped. He met a nurse who then turned to be really good friends with him. Ishmael was taken by his uncle Tommy to meet his new family.

"Come on and see me next weekend so we can have more time to catch up, okay?"
This shows how important Ishmael was for Esther and how she always wanted him to be happy and helped him achieve his goals.

I really recomend this book because it gives you knowledge about things you didn't even knew they were happening in places such as Sierra Leone and informs people. It also encourages people to donate to the UNICEF cause and that helps a lot of other african children get helped. This book will hook you up and have you reading it every day.

He Killed Someone?!

In this last chapters Ishmael and his friends are captured and trained for killing. The lieutenant gave the boy soldiers a day of for swimming, playing soccer, etc. The next day the lieutenant gave them white bars that were supposedly helping them fight. Ishmael for the first time killed someone but at the same time, Musa and Josiah get shot and killed right  in his eyes which  gives him anger to fight better.

“If you see anyone without a head tie of this color or a helmet like mine, shoot him.”

This quote again shows how the lieutenant treats people from the enemy team how he does not care about their lives

We lost  a few adult soldiers on our side and my friends Josiah and Musa. Musa the storyteller was gone.,.
This quote shows how Ishmael remember his greatest friends and how he will miss them.

I predict Ishmael will go to the dark side. He will get to drugs really bad and kill all the people that bothers him until he gets killed. He will get killed when he is high by a gunmen at the jungle.

Rap saved them again?

In this last chapters Ishmael and his crew just kept walking and passed through a town where they got caught and were about to get drowned by a fisherman but when a teen from Mogwebo recognized Junior, Ishmael and the others they were given the chance to stay or leave so they walked through hours in the hot sand. Their feet bled and where burning.

That morning we thanked the men who had helped bury Saidu. "You will always know where he is laid," one of the men said. I nodded in agreement, but I know that the chances of coming back to the village were slim, as we had no control over our future. We know only how to survive.

People bury dead people as symbol of memory because then, they will know where the person was buried and can remember them forever. Also, by burying them, they will feel like they are close to that person, even though that person is already dead. The people are afraid of things they cannot understand, so they create things or traditions such as burials to explain to themselves things they can’t comprehend. Since they don’t know where the person truly is, with the burial they can feel like they know where the person they lost is.

Along the way, they see two dead bodies that make Ishmael want to vomit. One of the soldiers smiles and says, “You will get used to it. Everybody does.”

This quote shows how explicit the soldiers or rebels are and how they treated new recruits. In here, it is demonstrated how soldiers are not disugsted by anything and how they have to be tough in war. Also, it shows how the war environment usually is, filled with bloodshed, and with suffering, filled with sorrow and sadness. Finally, this quote really helps me understand how the new recruits are treated when they go to war.

My prediction this time is that they won't survive again. The luck they just had was really “Once in a lifetime” and that won’t happen again. This won’t happen again and Ishmael along with his brother and his friends will die because of any disease or maybe get killed by the revels but they can’t survive again.

Hip-Hop and Rap saved my life!?

Now, Ishmael, Junior. Talloi and Mohamed made a rapping and dancing group. One day, Gibrilla and Kaloko returned earlier from school. Talloi asked why and they both replied that their teachers told them that Mogwebo, their home, had been attacked by rebels and that the village they were at was next. They did not found their families. When they were attacked too he ran away with his brother Junior and some other friends that are essential for his survival through the story.

“These days I live in three worlds: my dreams, and the experiences of my new life, which trigger memories from the past”.

This quote shows how Ishmael felt through the tough times he went through. Everybody that has gone through tough times, once in awhile feel this way because you feel disconnected from your body and you feel your soul wandering through other places like they felt in those tough times.

When I was very little, my father used to say, "If you are alive, there is hope for a better day and something good to happen. If there is nothing good left in the destiny of a person, he or she will die."

I believe that Ishmael father is a wise guy because he said this quote coming from his heart for helping Ishmael when he could have been in tough times. This quote really meant something for Ishmael because it made him reflect about his father word when he was escaping from the rebels.

I sincerely predict that Ishmael and all his squad will not survive for much longer. My beliefs might be right because he is on conditions that the human body can not experience for a long time for example dehydration and hunger. They would eventually die if they do not find a village with food.  If they found a village on their scaping route, the might get themselves to safety.
